The cache is a 1litre box with log book and pencil. Coin of the realm for the FTF. Parking co-ords:N50.25.038 W004.50.281 If you drive into the lane from the main road and park on the extreme left near the footpath sign you will not obstruct the lane.
The cache is placed on a little known or used public footpath to the site of Roche Holy Well. The original footpath has been moved and adapted to make way for the new stretch of the A30. You will have to negotiate crossing the track of the Newquay to Par branch line via a gated crossing; please take care and remember to secure all gates behind you. It can be done as a cache and dash – but having come halfway along the path to the well why not continue and visit an old, little known site nestling quietly in a valley while the modern world rushes on nearby? I have never known the area around the well to be dry so wellies, even in summer, would be a good idea. Roche Holy Well was well known as a cure for all kinds of diseases. J. T. Blight writing in 1858, noted that: “The spring is still in repute, and is frequented by the peasantry, before sunrise, on holy Thursday and the two following Thursdays; the blessing of the tutelary Saint is bespoken by the offering of pins, sometimes bent before being thrown into the water” If you would like to expand the Ancient Wells Series by placing a cache of your own please contact LizMar2010 to request a number and to add the cache to the bookmark
