Jeramiah Boxford Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Nashuan: I am shocked that so stout a tree got taken out by this past winter but ot took out Camp Nasty in Freemont NH also so maybe I shouldn't be.

100 years from now archeologists will be carefully screening this area and come across two glass eyes and they will wonder and argue and ponder what it means - LOL.

Thank you to all who came to find old Jeramiah but he has crossed over to Summerland and goes onto Valhalla.

Geocache Description:

Just more than a hundred years ago Jeramiah Boxford was at the posted coords as he searched for a tradional cache between two of the waypoints of "Witchitai-To" (visit link) . It was late in January and the bitter cold froze the wooden batteries in his GPSr; rendering them useless.

Then a terrible wind kicked up off of the Great Swamp with ferocious force. Jeramiah was a tough old bird to be sure but even he shuddered under the approaching storm's intimidation. He leaned his back up against a tree and lamented why he didn't pay more attention to the warnings of the cache page about being prepared.

Jeramiah slowly fell into a deep sleep as the sun set and the wind blew colder still. By morning, old man Boxford had passed on: frozen solid to the bone. Worse still, he DNF'd this last cache though of course he would never be able to officially log it as such. The spirits of the land were mightily impressed with Jeramiah's efforts, but also worried about others that would surely follow in years to come.

What to do? What to do? Around that time the tree spirit spoke up and suggested that it would wrap itself around Jeramiah and protect his brave soul. Jeramiah's memory would thus also serve as a reminder to be careful in this forest. Then a stone spirit stood up and said that it would also guard this special place for all time. Years did go by and most of what we would know of old Jeramiah Boxford just melted away, but if you look closely enough, you might just find the very spot where his spirit remains to this very day. He is at peace, watching the forest he loved so much and listening to the changing seasons of the great swamp, except for just one thing. That pesky illusive cache that Nashuan's ancestors placed when they first came to America. The old man was so close - had he walked straight from where he last stood to where the stone spirit stands today and then continued straight another 30 feet, he might have found it.

Maybe if you're in the neighborhood, you can look for Jeramiah's unfound cache - he'd like that.

CONGRATULATIONS TO REXRIDER98 ON BEING FTF! GREAT JOB! REX IS PROBABLY THE ONLY PERSON WHO KNOWS THESE WOODS BETTER THAN JERAMIAH HIMSELF. RIP MR. BOXFORD.
