Penglais Woods Cleanup - Sunday September 18th 11:00 - 14:00
Meeting on the small green at the bottom of North Road.
The CITO event aims to clear up some of the litter (it isn't too bad but it still spoils the woods a bit and gives the local geocachers the chance for a chat)
We are meeting at the end of north road at the start of the public footpath to the town entrance of the woods which tends to be more popular and also more grubby.
We will walk the woods, picking up litter as we go.
Whether you can come for the whole Event or only an hour please join us in giving back a little to these well used woods.
What better way to give back than cleaning up the trash and helping to preserve the natural beauty of our outdoor resources.
Listed coordinates are for the small green at the start of the footpath.
The parking area has lots of space, and if we do need it additional parking will be close by in town.
Penglais Nature reserve is a natural area of beauty, with lots of wildlife and flowers.
During the spring, the woods are carpeted with bluebells and there are often many wild birds such as blackcaps and redwings and jays.
Some of the best views in Aberystwyth can be seen from the woods and the nature park is based on the site of an old quarry.
You can enter the reserve in two main places, the very popular public footpath which starts in North Road (see waypoints) and one opposite to the university,
Admission is always free and the woods are always open.
Children are welcome with adult supervision. Dogs are welcome but must be leashed at all times.
Just turn up at 11am and help with the clean up and then you can log the event, simple!
If it rains, it rains - remember to bring a raincoat if the weather isn't looking too good!
The must haves are drinking water (and a few snacks if you like) and gloves (the sturdy type you'd use for gardening would be best).
A GPS unit as there are a couple of great caches in the woods already (Try Penglais Woods Challenge and Rainbow Series - Green)
Good boots/shoes with plastic bags are also important as it's not summer any more and the paths can be muddy!
And also a camera to post pictures on the gallery for the event!
If you can, please bring any litter collection equipment you can, as well as bin bags!
** Please note that in order to log this event as a find on gc.com you
must be present at some point and have participated in the clean-up. A
"I drove by and waved" will not be considered acceptable, you have to
help and get your hands dirty!.**
