The White Rock “Y”

This interchange of overpasses and cloverleafs is the main junction of NM 502 heading to Los Alamos and NM 4 heading to White Rock and Bandelier National Monument. It serves as a meeting point for people coming off ‘the Hill’ and heading to Santa Fe or other points south. In the old days this was a simple road intersection shaped like a ‘Y’ and due to the heavy traffic twice daily to/from the Laboratory was called Malfunction Junction.
