Geocache Description:

New custom cache container, designed to foil muggles. Camo'd to blend in with immediate surroundings but placed in very plain sight. Accessible from the sidewalk. Extreme stealth is required during daylight hours due to roaming guards (who wander during their frequent smoking breaks), and the many metro riders who use the crosswalk in the immediate area.

For many years, the Rocketdyne facility in Canoga Park built and serviced the main engines for NASA’s Space Shuttle. After every mission the thrusters were returned here for disassembly, inspection, reassembly, and test. Some of the most critical components were the impellers in the pump assembly, which flowed liquid hydrogen (-425°) and liquid oxygen (-290°) together at a rate that would fill an Olympic sized pool in just seconds! Rocketdyne is now part of Pratt & Whitney, which continues to manufacture and service aviation and space propulsion systems.

From the cache location you'll get an excellent view of the monumental shuttle engine (bring your camera).

It is highly recommended that when you retrieve the cache, move away from the GZ to sign the log before returning it's original location, and original orientation. The difficulty rating of 2 reflects the challenge of grabbing this cache unobserved.

24/7 parking available across the street. DO NOT attempt to park in the Rocketdyne employee parking lot, it is actively partrolled. Use stealth when grabbing the cache, and please replace in the same location carefully. BYOP

Special FTF packet with shuttle mission STS-111 decal and James Madison $1 coin.
