Geocache Description:

You will be looking for Tupperware-type container.

I've decided not to change the original name of this cache, although it should be "Frederick Nolte's private diary." I'm trying to locate an old photo of this area, but until then, I'll give you a bit of the history of this neat park.

Deep lake has long been a favorite refuge from summer heat. It had a dance pavilion extending over it's shores, a high-dive, and numerous summer cabins on the wooded lake. The property became Nolte State Park when Minnie Nolte, whose family had operated private concession, generously willed it to the state in 1971. Frederick had acquired the more than 160 acres in 1883. He was influential in opening several mines in the area. Legend has it that a mine shaft extends under the lake and that it caved in with the machinery still in it. I wonder if anyone was in the mine when it caved in? Swim at your own risk. There is a roped off section for children but no lifeguard.

  1. A Discover Pass is required to enter the park.
