Geocache Description:

With much mirth friends from Gore (hereafter known as Gorons) would point out the main street of Wyndham (Balaclava Street) and Cardigan Road and make rude references to the two. Where is Jersey Avenue and Underpants Lane? This from people whose main street is imaginatively called Main Street!

The cache is located at the intersection of these two streets with Pera Street. The roads are not busy but please keep an eye on kids. The cache is, of course, not on the road.

The streets of Wyndham are named after events and persons of the Crimean War (October 1853 – February 1856). This was fought between Russia and an alliance of the British, Ottoman, French and Sardinians. Much of the fighting took place in the Crimean Peninsula, now in modern day Ukraine. The infamous Charge of the Light Brigade was an action of this war.

Some selected street names and their origin
Balaclava St: Battle of Balaclava, this contained the Charge of the Light Brigade.
Florence St & Nightingale St: The nurse who was a pioneer of professional nursing techniques.
Inkerman St: Battle of Inkerman - an action fought on November 5, 1854 at Inkerman (now in the Ukraine).
Cardigan St: Lieutenant General James Thomas Brudenell, 7th Earl of Cardigan who ostensibly "led" the Charge of the Light Brigade.

The events of this war would have been reasonably fresh in the minds of the founders of the town.

Further research, especially of the events of the Charge makes for an engaging read.
