What a week! - Where were you? Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

sfcchaz: I rolled by here today and saw that there is major construction in the area with little or no access to the cache. I wouldn't be surprised if the GR gets yanked up as well. So, it looks like this one with have to be archived. No telling how long the construction will go on.

Thanks to all who told their stories and sought this cache.

Geocache Description:

Wow, we had an earthquake and a hurricane in the same week! On Tuesday, Auguist 23, 2011 at 1:51 PM a magnitude 5.8 earthquake centered in Mineral, Virginia shook a great part of the east coast. It was felt over a wide area. Reportedly as far as Georgia to New York, Ohio, and even Canada.

Later that weekend (depending on your location) Hurricane Irene battered our area with high winds and surf as well as a lot of rain. Where were you when all this happened? This cache is not so much about the container as it is about the story. I would expect that most finders of this cache can relate a story of "I was..." during these events. If you would like, please share your story.

This was the first time I felt an earthquake while I was actually inside a building. I was at my office on Fort Meade on the second floor when the earthquake happened. I was standing in a cube farm and many of the other occupants stood up when the quake shook our building. I would estimate that we shook about 3 inches left to right for about 10 to 15 seconds. The building is brand new and we are currently in the process of occupying the building due to the BRAC (Base Relocation and Closure) move. So, I'm sure there were a lot of differing thoughts of what was happening at that time. Fortunately a colleague of mine was on the phone with someone at the Pentagon during the quake and that person said he felt it as well. That definately made me feel better.

As for the hurricane, I spent the worst of it in the house watching television. Fortunately we did not lose power during this event and had no real damage on our property.

Happy hunting.
