This cache is located in Garibaldi Provincial Park at Elfin Lakes, this cache will give you a spectacular view of the mountains of Garibaldi Park, the Squamish Valley and the Tantalus Range beyond.
To get to this cache, you will have to hike. The trail is gentle and you can do it in one day. To get to the lakes is about 5 to 6 hours depending on your speed. The trail begins as switchbacks up Paul Ridge.
Once over Paul Ridge, you begin to slowly loose altitude on the approach of the lakes. Once at the Red Heather shelter you are pretty much half way. Unless you are an experienced snowshoer, skiier, or snow hiker, I would not reccomend you do this cache in the winter. The snow can get 3 metres deep.
Once at the Elfin Lakes trailhead parking lot, PLEASE check the trail report, even in August you can still get snow up there. I was up there in August and there was some very deep snow, however that is because we had a very cool summer in 2011.
I was shocked and appauled how many people were wearing sandals and flip flops up a trail that can be deadly, even on snow or dirt. I hid this cache on a 2 night hike, an overnighter is recommended. The stars at night are incredible and you will see some satallites as well as (possibly) the ISS.
So please, don't wear summer gear, be prepared, take a survival kit and take the trail seriously. People who have to get rescued from search and rescue and are seen wearing flip flops and a T-shirt on top of 4 feet of snow will not make them happy.
