Geocache Description:

ANAHIM LAKE HAS A HERO

Carey Price

Every town has a local hero, but Anahim Lake can claim a national icon. Carey Price, the goalie for the Montreal Canadiens, fits that bill. According to Wikipedia:

The highlight of the [2010] season for Price was stopping 37 of 38 shots in a 5-1 win over the Boston Bruins in the Canadiens 100 year anniversary game on December 4, 2009, and the low point was surrendering 4 goals in his only start of the playoffs. In the summer of 2010, both Price and Halák became restricted free agents and a goaltending debate emerged in Montreal over who would remain with the team, playoff-hero Halák, or the younger Price. After weeks of media speculation the Canadiens chose Price, trading Halák to the St. Louis Blues and re-signing Price to a two year, $5.5 million contract.

He is the only goaltender in hockey history to be named CHL Goaltender of the Year, World Junior Championship's tournament MVP and win the Jack A. Butterfield Trophy all in the same year. He is also the only goaltender in hockey history to win the Jack A. Butterfield Trophy the same year as playing junior.

Price was raised in Anahim Lake, British Columbia with sister Kayla by parents Jerry and Lynda Price.[10] His father, Jerry Price, was also a goaltender; he was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the eighth round, 126th overall in the 1978 NHL Amateur Draft.[10] Although he never played in the NHL, he did play four seasons of pro hockey in various leagues[11] and is currently the goaltending coach of the Tri-City Americans.[12] His mother, Lynda, is the former chief of the Ulkatcho First Nation.”

Price can be found in and around the annual Anahim Lake Stampede, participating, and acting as a “goodwill ambassador” while he renews old acquaintances. That is a lot for a community to reflect on with pride. Hey Carey, this cache is for you!
