Geocache Description:

**04/12/11 This is now a micro cache - bones1 very kindly replaced this when he found the original container was missing** An easy find, please note - There is a ditch running all the way round the common - please be very careful, especially at night or with small children. Initial cache contents: FTF badge, logbook, mini pencil, rubber, gogo. It is now only a 35 ml.

Uxbridge Common is a five-acre site, typical of the traditional village common in its layout which includes a pond, ditch network and perimeter tree planting.
By definition, the common is a fragment of remnant heath, meaning a small area of heath land remaining after the main part, which historically would have covered the surrounding area, no longer exists. The habitat is both locally and nationally scarce and important. Nutrient-poor acid grassland is also found on site, along with a pond which is home to the Great-Crested Newt, a UK BAP priority species.
The variety of vegetation found on site associated with the important habitats attracts a wide range of faunal wildlife including invertebrates and birds.
