Holloway Prison Traditional Cache
Southerntrekker: This cache has been in need of care and maintenance for some time and as the owner has not responded to recent logs I am archiving it.
The Geocache Maintenance guideline explains a CO's responsibility towards checking and maintaining the cache when problems are reported. Caches that have been archived for lack of maintenance will not be unarchived. This is explained in the Help Center.

Black magnetic nanocache
With your back to the pub, look across to the furthest road. HM Prison Holloway (sometimes known as Holloway Castle) is a prison for adult women and Young Offenders, located in the Holloway area of the London Borough of Islington.It was opened in 1852 as a mixed prison, but owing to growing demand for space for female prisoners became female-only in 1903. Prisoners included suffragettes. A total of five judicial hangings took place at the prison between 1903 and 1955, including that of the last woman to be hanged, Ruth Ellis, on July 15th, 1955.The bodies of the executed were buried in unmarked graves within the walls of the prison, as was customary. In 1971 the prison underwent an extensive programme of rebuilding, during which the remains of all the executed women were exhumed. The prison was also famous for its gothic tower and portcullis appearance and the redevelopment resulted in the loss of this "grand turreted" gateway to the prison. The public house behind the cache was always called “The Holloway Castle” and had a sign depicting the famous tower. Why oh why do they change things!.
