Geocache Description:

A golden ammo can to celebrate 1000 finds for both The Outdoors Kid and Gox Jr.

The Outdoors Kid is the eldest child of our area’s most notorious cacher, Goex; and is my neighbor. While there may be other 11 year olds out there with a 1000 finds, I doubt that none have found them more quickly or with more style. When her father says “let’s go caching”, it’s usually rewarded with an eye roll from her, but she still gamely hits the trail with us. ODK is never afraid of the challenges, either it be climbing down gorges without rope, pushing aside others for that find, or stepping in any bear droppings that may be found on the trail. (Yeah, that actually happened.)

Gox Jr, or more commonly referred to as “The Boy”, is the ODK’s younger brother. Never will you see more enthusiasm from an 8 year old when it comes to caching. He is often our secret weapon on the trail, making the difficult find while the rest of us as still wandering around. He has even been known to dive out the window of a not yet stopped car in order to get the find first. (If only he could show that kind of excitement for his homework.)

Both ODK and Gox Jr have joined their father Goex and myself on many of our caching adventures. We have explored the local parks together, including Harriman, Schunemunk, Sterling, Goose Pond, and of course the notorious Stewart. I have been promising Gox Jr that I would hide his golden ammo can is Stewart, so this different park is a gift for him. I have taken them camping back to my home town in the Adirondacks, boating on the waters there and climbing the mountains of my youth. (Don’t worry, there are caches on those mountains now). All of us did GeoWoodstock this year, as well as camping in the Maine wilds for that power trail up there. I look forwards to our future hikes together, and hopefully they will let me find some of those yet undiscovered caches!

This cache is hidden within Cascade Lake Park, a quiet little area in the town of Warwick, NY, along the New Jersey border. It is open to all users. Parking is at the end of Cascade Lake Road, an offshoot of Cascade Road. There are several marked trails. The light blue trail heads southeast, past the dam, and eventually heads uphill to terminate at the Appalachian Trail, with a fantastic view of Greenwood Lake. The red trail heads south along the lake and river side to a foot bridge crossing the river. From there, a woods road continues south to the Appalachian Trail again in New Jersey. This cache can be found on the yellow trail.
