Geocache Description:

Just a place, or what used to be a place, where you could probably get some good chow.

This virtual cash is located just north of Highway 58. The site is actually the second location of the town of Muroc. The original location of Muroc is on what is now Edwards Air Force Base to the south of here. Actually, the entire area that the base occupies was known as Muroc (Named after the Corum brothers who founded the town. It's just their name spelled backwards.)
Rogers Dry Lake, where the Shuttle sometimes lands, was once known as Muroc Dry Lake and in the 1930's it was where people took their hot rods to see how fast they would go. When the government bought the land Muroc (the town) was on in the 50's, they moved Angus and Ma Green's businesses to this location. The buildings stood until the early 70's when they were torn down.
(From desertnews.com) "Former Muroc Joint Unified School District Supt. Richard Lynch, who lives in North Edwards, recalled that the first classes at the new Desert High School were held in some old military barracks at Muroc Juction, the intersection of Highway 58 and Rosamond Blvd. at the Edwards North Gate. The junction was called “Ma Green’s” in those days after a popular bar/café operated by Angus Green and his wife, who was known to all as “Ma Green.”
"The Greens, like Pancho Barnes at the Rosamond entrance to the base, were sort of surrogate parents to the many GIs stationed at Edwards. Mrs. Green always wore a broad-brimmed straw hat and was a formidable woman with a heart of gold which she usually carefully concealed."
I would like to thank Mr. David Eyre and a posting on Desertnews.com from Bill Deaver (In quotes) for providing me with this information.
To let me know that you have been here, email me with what is written on the sign, it is actually two different words and you have to get right up to it to read them. Don't post them in your log but send them to me. Thanks again!
*Note, the "Muroc" picture below is not of the sign in question, it is just a random pic of old Muroc.
