Situado a Sudoeste da ilha das Flores, este miradouro localiza-se junto à freguesia do Lajedo.
Deste miradouro pode observar-se o ilhéu do Cartário, a costa entre o Lajedo e o Mosteiro e a Baixa Rasa onde em 1909 encalhou e naufragou o navio Slavonia (visit link) ).
É também aqui que se inicia o trilho pedestre PR2FLO (visit link) ) que liga o Lajedo à Fajã Grande e que durante cerca de 10 kms permite percorrer grande parte da costa Ocidental da ilha.
Inicialmente este lugar seria conhecido por “Lagedos”, topónimo este que com o tempo foi evoluindo para “Lajedo”, nome adequado à geologia do lugar devido às extensões de lajes ou rochas lisas que se encontram expostas pela erosão ao longo do litoral e também nas zonas mais altas das escarpas que rodeiam a freguesia.
A costa Oeste da ilha terá começado a ser desbravada em meados do século XVI, sendo que na primeira década do século seguinte terão surgido os primeiros núcleos populacionais estáveis, pelo que o Lajedo será o povoado mais antigo da costa ocidental florentina e foi a partir dele que o povoamento irradiou para norte, levando ao aparecimento das povoações que hoje constituem as freguesias do Mosteiro, Fajãzinha e Fajã Grande.
A título de curiosidade, apenas em Fevereiro de 1978 foi inaugurada a rede eléctrica local, altura em que se deixaram de utilizar as lamparinas a óleo de baleia que durante mais de um século e meio foram utilizadas para iluminação pela população local.
Do lado esquerdo deste miradouro e um pouco mais atrás, podem observar-se as baixas (Baixa Rasa) onde a 10 de Junho de 1909 encalhou e naufragou o navio “Slavonia” com 598 pessoas a bordo, mas ninguém morreu.
O “Slavonia” era um dos maiores e mais bonitos paquetes do mundo, pertencente à famosa companhia inglesa de navegação “RMS Cunard Line” e terá sido o primeiro a emitir um SOS na história da navegação, além de ser o mais belo e mítico navio naufragado no arquipélago dos Açores.
Nessa altura, o farol da Ponta das Lajes (visit link) ), que dominava o local onde ocorreu a tragédia, necessitava apenas das máquinas e da lanterna para entrar em funcionamento, pelo que este assunto não passou despercebido à imprensa portuguesa que na altura recriminou a entidade competente por não ter procedido à conclusão do farol, ficando este concluído em 1910.

Situated on the Southwest of Flores island, this viewpoint is located near the village of Lajedo.
From Lajedo viewpoint can be seen the islet Cartário, the coast between Lajedo and Mosteiro and also Baixa Rasa where in 1909 the ship Slavonia ran aground and sank.
It's also here that begins the trail PR2FLO (visit link) connecting Lajedo and Fajã Grande for about 10 kms and covering much of the West coast of the island.
Initially, this place would be known as "Lagedos," toponym that evolved over time to "Lajedo", an appropriate name to the geology of the place due to the extensions of slabs or flat rocks that are exposed by erosion along the coast and in higher areas of the slopes surrounding the village.
The west coast of the island has begun to be explored in the mid-sixteenth century, and in the first decade of the next century appeared the first stable settlements, so Lajedo is the oldest settlement on the west coast from Flores and it was from here that population irradiated to the North, leading to the appearance of the villages which are now the parishes of the Mosteiro, Fajãzinha and Fajã Grande.
Curious is the fact that just in February 1978 there was electricity on this village, when people stopped using lamps with whale oil, which for more than a century and a half were used for lighting by local people.
On the left side of this viewpoint and a little further back, it’s possible to observe “Baixa Rasa”, where at June 10th 1909 ran aground and sank the ship "Slavonia" with 598 people aboard, but nobody died.
The "Slavonia" was one of the largest and finest steamers in the world, belonging to the famous British company navigation "Cunard Line RMS" and had been the first to issue an SOS in the history of navigation, besides being the most beautiful and mythical ship sunk in the Azores archipelago.
At that time, the lighthouse at Ponta das Lajes, which dominated the place where the tragedy occurred, needed only the machines and the flashlight to be operational, so this issue didn’t go unnoticed by the Portuguese Press that criticized at the time the competent authority for not have proceeded to completion of the lighthouse, getting this completed only in 1910.
