RAS - 7 Mile Post Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Cyclops: Thanks to everyone that came here to look for my cache. I hope everyone enjoyed their time on Mackinac Island.

Very few trackables were found in the caches I'm archiving. Those that were found, will be moved on.

The container has been removed.

Geocache Description:

Generally level walking except for a small rise near the northern tip of the island.

DO NOT LOOK FOR THIS CACHE ON OR AFTER OCTOBER 19, 2012.

This cache and some others that I own on Mackinac Island are going to be disabled on Oct. 4th and archived sometime after Oct. 29th.

On Oct. 19th I will be removing this cache and reusing the container to create a new cache. Normally I would just archive a cache and let the container remain for several weeks so anyone with old waypoints wouldn't look for a cache that has been removed. I can't do that with this cache as the existing container will be reused.

Logs will be allowed until Oct. 18th despite this cache being disabled. I'm posting a disable log to help warn geocachers that this cache will soon be gone.

Along the shore of Mackinac Island is M-185. This road is 8.3 miles round trip, paved with asphalt, and is very level walking except for a small rise near the north end. This road is traveled by some of island visitors. Most walk and some take a horse drawn carriage ride. This second group provides the inspiration for this series name, "Road Apple Series". Formally a "Tour", now just a "Series". If you're not sure what a Road Apple is, then this may help, you don't want to step on one and make it a Road Apple Pancake.

These caches were placed for the family on a geocaching vacation. If your children are of an age where you would rent a kid trailer, then this series is for you. Most caches are close to the road or, at the most, a dozen or two steps off road. Some caches in this series will be off of a side trail, such as the Shoreline Trail (crushed stone), or the Lake Shore Nature trail (boardwalk and crushed stone).

You will be searching for a decon container. Please re-hide as found or better. Please trade fair or don't trade.

I highly recommend picking up an "Mackinac Island Map" from the information booth across the street from the Arnold docks, N45 50.971 W84 37.075. If the maps are not in the holders on the front of the building, look on the sides of the building. For your convenience and planning, you can view or print the PDF files for two different Mackinac Island Maps here. Also available at the link is a zip file for some various waypoints for drinking fountains, bathrooms and a remote snack bar. The map available at the information booth is printed on a glossy paper and holds up fairly well when repeatedly tucked in and out of a pocket or caching bag. On a recent visit to the island they only have the smaller map available.

I read many of the logs that are posted on my caches. Sometimes I don't read all emails. If you find a problem with any of my caches please post a "Needs Maintenance" log. Thank you.
