If you have access to Wainwright's "Outlying Fells of Lakeland" there is a full description on pages 58-65. This is not too hard a walk for anyone who does not mind hills and easy for an experienced fell walker!
The Hospice was provided by a pastor of Cartmel in the 19th century "for the shelter and entertainment of travellers over the fell" and is an excellent viewpoint, and shelter from the wind and rain! The surrounding limestone 'pavement' is interesting and quite extensive.
Take time for the views and the reading provided within the hospice
To justify the find please tell me by email through my profile what happens to the smoke if you light the fire! Yes I know it goes up the chimney - but then what?
