A nice walk through Aviemore, covering the urban and not so urban parts of it!
Aviemore was just a small parish with barely more than an inn and a few buildings. In the 19th century- it became a key place and grew rapidly when it was connected by rail on the railway between Inverness and Perth.
Robbie Burns passed through Aviemore in the 18th century on his highland tour and stayed in 'The Winking Owl' inn which is the oldest building in Aviemore and still stands today serving traditional ales.
Later, when the railway did connect Aviemore, there weren't many residents- however when the railway was being built, many workers took residence thanks to British Rail buying lots of surrounding land and it was this time onwards when the newly formed town started to thrive from a small settlement. More recently, the main A9 road was built to pass through the town however now, a bypass has been built- ensuring o busy traffic traveling north or south travels along the high street.
Along with the thriving town, it was considered the gateway to the Cairngorms ski area and opened up huge tourist connections by becoming one of the first eatablished ski resorts in Scotland- with the opening of the White Lady Chairlift, in the Ptarmigan bowl, which has rather recently been replaced with the Furnicular railway- the only one of its kind in Scotland.
The close proximity to the Glenmore reindeers- the only freely grazing reindeer herd in the UK.
This multi will take you on a wee walk from the railway station at the bottom of the town, up the high-street, past the Winking Owl inn and then north to the newish 'Aviemore Orbital Path'.
To get the multi's coordinates (the ones above are simply for the road from the A9 into the town) can be found by visiting the following waypoints and collecting the clues:
-Stage 1-
N 57° 11.297, W 3° 49.758- This is an information board about how Aviemore was barely just a barn and an inn and all of a sudden became a key stop between Perth and Inverness.
Check out the section on the 'Rathad-Iarainn railway'. It was all change from 1ABC onwards.
-Stage 2-
N 57° 11.330 W 3° 49.810- This is a wee park in the middle of Aviemore. Check out the olympic monument... Sapporo= 1D72
-Stage 3-
N 57° 11.441 W 3° 49.731- This will take you to another information board. Find the following and substitute the letters. 'Ancient forests, rolling moors and flower filled fields are home to EF,000 people.'
-Stage 4-
N 57° 11.579 W 3° 49.781- The oldest building in Aviemore- which is the Winking Owl and the G nightclub.
Now you've got all of the clues simply work out the coordinates!

The cache is a usual size tupperware and contains the usual trinkets and some medals for the FTF team or, if there is no team, the STF lol!
You may want to note, that despite what looks like the final cache's close proximity to the A9- it is not accessible from the A9 and is separated by a good few metres of trees and a fence.
