Geocache Description:

Welcome back to Muggle Studies 101. Today we're taking you out into the field to our Main Street Muggle Conversion Lab. This cache will put you smack dab into the center of Ferndale, described by the Everett Herald as "having a Mayberry quality to it ... the downtown strip looks like something from America's Heartland."

Most students find today's lab a refreshing break from our theoretical analyses of muggle characteristics and behaviour. The experiment today places you in plain view in the busiest area of downtown Ferndale. Hundreds of people drive by this cache, and hundreds more come within three feet of it every day, but they don't see what you and I see -- a geocache. Let's change that.

This location gives you an opportunity to use not only the low profile Techniques of Discretion discussed in class, but also (and primarily) a chance to employ geocacher friendliness, in order to reduce the ranks of the uninitiated. Be prepared for the curious muggle who approaches you with "Can I help you find something?" Accept their offer and share the wonder of caches that can be seen from a distance, but remain hidden until they are revealed.

Although no hints are necessary to find the cache, three local muggle establishments within visual range of the cache have agreed to provide clues. You may inquire at the Barber Shop, Bike Shop or Sports Shop (2nd Ave) to receive a clue. Or enter all three, as each establishment has a distinct, individual clue to dispense. Savor the muggle ambiance at each locale. Each clue is subtle but should prove helpful. Don't hesitate to avail yourself of the clue acquisition process, whether you get 'stuck' or not, or even before the cache hunt begins, as doing so will assist in the sociological process of geocacher formation.

You are encouraged to report the details of the cache finding process and your observations in the online log. Our grade will be based on how much enjoyment you derived from the process. Extra points for each positive muggle encounter. Points deducted for drawing undue attention to the actual cache location. Please don't disturb the landscaping. Have fun functioning as both student and teacher, and good luck!
