Geocache Description:

The Magarey Medal is awarded to the 'fairest and most brilliant' player in the SANFL each year.
The award was created by William Ashley Magarey, then chairman of the league.
The medal has been awarded annually since1898.
'Beautiful Bill', as Magarey was known, was keen to stamp out violence and rough play, and to increase respect for umpires. It is the oldest and the best and fairest award in Australia. The first Magarey Medal was won by Norwood rover Alby Green.
The City of Charles Sturt honours each Magarey Medal winner with a tree in Magarey Grove. The spotted gums planted represent the heights reached by these talented and gallant players. Goal posts at each end lead the way to AAMI Stadium, the home of football in South Australia.
