Geocache Description:

This cache is easy to locate and the ground is mostly level (perhaps one step up to get hold of it). If you come by car, please park considerately in a layby or a wide part of the road.

The cache is near to Townend, a seventeenth century farmhouse located in the picturesque village of Troutbeck. It was lived in by 12 generations of the Browne family for at least 400 years. The Brownes made their money through sheep farming, but they were also voracious social climbers. George Browne who owned the house in Victorian times was also an enthusiastic wood carver and his work can still be seen inside the house. There is further information inside the cache about fascinating landscape and architectural features which can be seen during your visit to Troutbeck. We hope you enjoy your visit to Troutbeck valley.
