Teith Bridge Traditional Cache

Its all fine having a hard to find cache but if it results in this much damage then it has to go...sorry for anyone who hasnt found it yet. The next one we'll hide under concrete!!!

This bridge was built by the royal tailor, Robert Spittal of Stirling, in 1535. There had previously been a ferry across the river at this point. The story goes that Robert Spittal wanted to cross the river one day but was a little short of cash. The ferryman refused to carry him across for less than the standard fare. It is said that Robert Spittal's subsequent building of the Bridge of Teith had less to do with his concern for the public good than his desire to do the ferryman out of a job.
This bridge has its very own whisky galore story, & nothing to do with the distillery in the nearby village of Deanston. About 15 years ago a grocery lorry crashed through the wall of the bridge landing in the river below. The driver later made a full recovery. Local villagers grabbed the opportunity to help themselves to supplies and for the next few days all meals, cigarettes and alcohol consumed in the village really had come "from the back of a lorry".
