Geocache Description:

Easy smiley face to fill in that day that happens only once every four years - fill it in come rain or shine!

Congratulation s to “hoffyp” for FTF on the event log ! Thanks to ROANQ and TrailReader for adding to the sack of loot for the raffle. I hope everyone enjoyed the event.

Here is what my cumulative geocaching calendar looked like after collecting three smiley faces between the end of the work day and the event:

If all goes well then this will be the day I celebrate filling in the last of my 366 days of caching calendar under the statistics tab at geocaching.com. I imagine other cachers may be doing the same. Others who are working on the 366 days of caching calendar may want an easy cache for this day. One never knows if the weather will be cooperative! I am planning to buy the first couple of pizzas. There will also be shiny trinkets - little round tokens specifically for this event - these will go first to cachers who have logged “will attend” and actually show up. Any of the trinkets that are left will go to other attendees. We'll also have the tried and true “geo bingo” – you might send me a suggestion on interesting blocks you can fill in if you're sure you'll attend. I'm good for blocks like has “been questioned by law enforcement whilst caching” and “has ridden a bicycle over 75 miles for one smiley face.” I'm sure there are many other interesting “factoids” about local cachers to create an entertaining set of cards for “geo bingo.” Be sure to enter yours!

Update – 19JAN2012

There are now five event geocoins which have been engraved with the event GC code, event name and date. These will be used as door prizes and for winners of geobingo.

Update – 23FEB2012

Turns out there will dozens of leap year events like this one. Many are coordinated efforts. If you’re curious about these then use your favorite online search for “leap year multi event.” Many have special geocoins. There are basically two geocoin designs out there. Each design has various color schemes for a particular locality. I have managed at this late date to get my mitts on ten of one of the geocoin designs. It is similar to the one shown here, but has green glittery frogs. I will make these available for purchase at cost: $11. First come, first serve.

Update – 28FEB2012

Don’t forget to sign the log! There is an actual cache at the event. And the cache has the event log. If you’ve found a “Peace, Love &Happiness” cache, then you know what you’re seeking. If you find it then please don’t reveal the hiding place to others. Extra points if you can find the cache and sign the log without being noticed! Don’t worry if you don’t find it – the location will be revealed to all before the end of the event.

Schedule:
6:30 p.m. -- meet and eat
7:30 p.m. -- geobingo
6:30 -- 8:30 -- find and sign log book
6:30 -- 8:00 -- enter for geocoin doorprize
6:30 -- 8:00 -- pick up your “shiny trinkets”
8:00 -- award doorprize geocoin and other doorprizes
