Geocache Description:

A small cache at an iconic Chiltern location.

Chiltern railway station is one of the best-preserved Victorian-era railway stations on the Albury-Wodonga line. "On opening day, 19 November 1873, buggies, carts and pedestrians made their way to Chiltern. At 2.30pm, the locomotive arrived with the Governor of Victoria. After speeches, officials boarded the train for Wodonga. The Chiltern railway goods shed was erected in 1873 and the station in 1874, featuring ornate brick and cast iron work, and drinking fountains extending from the veranda columns." The station has recently been extended to cater for trains on the south-bound standard-gauge line. Three passenger trains stop here each day in either direction. The goods shed has been developed as a facility for cycle-tourers and a community centre. The cache is a small magnetic Sistema container with log-book and pencil and room for one or two swaps. Please make sure it is reinstalled securely! Be prepared to use stealth at any time of day or night, especially if muggles are waiting for trains or if the tenants of the station building are in residence - they are responsible for the well-maintained gardens.
