Tin Hat Mountain Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Skookum Bear: Cache Owner,

As you have not indicated that you have visited your cache location to replace it if it was missing, perform needed maintenance, or verify that it is still there within a reasonable amount of time, I am regretfully archiving the cache to clear it from the active cache database and open the area to new caching opportunities.

Please do not respond to this note by sending an email reply - your response will go to an unmonitored location and disappear into the ether instead of being sent to me. If you need to contact me regarding this cache, please do so using the link on my Profile Page

Thank you for your contribution to geocaching.

Geocache Description:

Head up from the Lang Bay Store, and stick to the Goat Lake Main. Your first turn is a LEFT.. the sign says Tin Hat, clearly marked. Keep going up until you see the sign and fork that says Giovanni Main. Go Right. Keep going until the parking coords (or to your discretion of what your vehicle can handle). The road has recently been blasted. You can technically drive all the way up to the mountain base, but it's meant for 4x4 or ATV. We parked and hiked.

We started at the park site at 9am and didn't get back until 1:30. Plan to stay at the top for about an hour. Appreciate the view of the tower and cool down in the cabin. Pack plenty of water and if you are bringing dogs, bring some for them too. There is no water until the top of the mountain.

Bug spray strongly recommended. Be cautious of bugs around dogs.. all seven dogs we took up had extremely bitten up underbellies when we made it to the top.

If you plan to stay overnight, the cabin is recommended. It's got a pellet stove and some dishes, but please practice good manners and take your trash with you.

Cache is in a decently obvious spot. You wouldn't want to NOT find this cache after going all that way. It's a small camo taped lock and lock with some trackables and small swag. Please if the cache is in need of maintenance, come prepared. It's log is in a baggy, and it should be well sealed, but just keep in mind to help out. :)

Bring a camera, you'll regret it if you don't. Make sure to have adequate footwear.

Take breaks on the way, when needed. You don't want to exhaust yourself. Roundtrip is 10km.

Good luck and happy trails! Hope you enjoy the journey as much as I did.
