On May 3, 2000 near Beavercreek, Oregon, the very first geocache was hidden by a computer consultant named Dave Ulmer. He shared the news of the hide with the online community on sci.geo.satellite-nav:
N 45° 17.460 W 122° 24.800
The original contents of the 5 gallon bucket consisted of a Delorme Topo USA, 2 CD Roms, a cassette recorder, a "George of the Jungle" VHS tape, a Ross Perot book, 4 $1 bills, a slingshot handle and a pretty notorious can of beans
Now, over 11 years later, there are more than 1.5 million active caches and over 5 million cachers worldwide.
On July 26 , 2009, Scrapmom521 and Yankez33 had the honor of going to ground zero of the "original stash" (as it was known) , and logging their find at the plaque, GCGV0P, placed there in its honor. As 2 people who love the game of geocaching, there was great feeling and pride when they became 1 of the 6465 cachers, to have logged the find.
In keeping the legend of the "original stash" going, the notorious can of beans referred to earlier has been turned into a trackable. It has become the #1 most found trackable in the world
An odd little side note of their journey to the "original stash", their GPSr died a few miles away from GZ. Luckily Yankez33 had his Blackberry and they used it to make the find. While they were there, a caching couple from SoCal showed up and needed help as their GPSr was giving them troubles as well.
Strange coincidence ??
Due to shore cleanup efforts by the city of Delta, the original location had to be changed. You will need to SOLVE THE PUZZLE AGAIN. The new coordinates are:
N 49 EF.GHD W 123 FG.BDB
Cache is a duct-taped pill bottle.
Bring your own pen
Please rehide cache exactly as you found it to avoid muggle detection
CONGRATS TO MRGULLABLE FOR THE FTF
Previous geochecker had 65 right, 133 wrong.
Thanks to Yankez33 & Scrapmom521 for creating this puzzle and allowing me to adopt it.
