Arachnophobia or arachnephobia is a specific phobia, the fear of
spiders and other arachnids such as scorpions. It is a
manifestation of zoophobia, among the most common of all phobias.
The reactions of arachnophobics often seem irrational to others
(and sometimes to the sufferers themselves). People with
arachnophobia tend to feel uneasy in any area they believe could
harbor spiders or that has visible signs of their presence, such as
webs. If arachnophobics see a spider, they may not enter the
general vicinity until they have overcome the panic attack that is
often associated with their phobia. In some extreme cases, even a
picture or a realistic drawing of a spider can also trigger fear.
Arachnophobics may feel humiliated if such episodes occur in a
social setting. (Thanks, Wikipedia!)
This cache is the second in our Simpson park series. This one
takes you to one of the entrances. However, you do NOT need to
enter the park to access this cache. Equipment required: Bug spray
(preferably the industrial strength kind) , a large spider web
wacking stick of sorts (…or broom handle, if that’s
your thing. Who are we to judge?), tweezers (do you hate us yet?),
and pen (ever since acquiring a new pen of the sharpie variety, I
have to say that I HIGHLY recommend this kind) . We feel compelled
to mention, however, that we do not support or advise in the
killing of these spiders (no matter how big or how much you feel
that they are eyeballing your jugular vein), since they help to
keep the mosquito population in check.
