When I moved to the Wirral in the 1980s, Saughall Massie Road from
Upton to Heron Rd/Pump lane was both narrow and twisted, following
the old boundaries on the field.
Since then it has been straightened, not only taking out all the
bends, but it also by-passes the village of Saughall Massie. It has
recently had its speed limit increased to 50mph.
Along this stretch there is a cycle way that still follows the
gated loops of the old road. Today whilst on our bicycles, we
placed this micro-cache close to the end of one of these ‘Old
Road’ loops.
This cache is ideal for cyclists and pedestrians. For those in cars
parking is a little more tricky, but there are gateways and it is
possible to pull off at the end of the loops.
If you have geo-kids or geo-pets with you, please take extra care
as cars now travel very fast along this road.
