Geocache Description:

The seventh of the Old Wells Ring of caches. Medium container with a pencil, a cache card and a log book, along with trades. Please re-hide cache out of sight. The whole circular walk is approx 2.5km.

To get to this cache, continue walking on the track until you reach the crossroads. Turn right, with the field on your immediate left, up the bridle path. Keep walking on this, the cache is on your right.

You should not continue up this track to continue the walk.

The path you are on was an original pathway used pre 1922 as a route from Shepton Mallet to Frome. You can still make out the defined horse-and-cart ruts on both sides of the path which would have allowed traffic to run in both directions.

If you continue on this path you will come out in the village of Dean, which first entered the history books in the 17th century, with the Smithy at the bottom of the hill primarily producing horse shoes for the passing tradesmen.

Dean did however exist before that as a collection of small houses on the road, now called The Rocks due to the rock that was placed there to allow carts to be easily pulled up and down the hill.

The cache is a clip lock box with space for trades and trackable items. Please return it as found, making sure it is re-hidden out of sight. Adding natural camo as you see fit.

I'm currently looking for people who might be able to help look after my caches whilst I'm away undertaking a doctorate. If you think you might be able to help, please do let me know by contacting me at geocachingjohn@googlemail.com (If you can't help maintain them long term, it would be wonderful if you could take along some spare logs/pencils/etc. to keep these caches alive, just in case)
