Geocache Description:

This cache is located in the open space trails on the Deming Young Farm property. The trails are obvious, but parts can be quite steep and somewhat rocky and/or slippery with leaves. The cache is off the trail and will require mild bushwhacking (spring/summer) and heightened muggle awareness (fall/winter). Take heed of the cache name and use bug spray. I left a pen in the cache, but to be on the safe side, bring your own. There's a small prize for FTF.

There is room for very small trackables and trade items. Late spring and summer foliage provide adequate cover for stealth, but during the fall and winter there is virtually no cover and you will be visible from every direction. Therefore, please take appropriate precautions, particularly at that time of year. Parking can be found at N 41 39.839 W 072 44.362. The walk to the cache is just short of a half mile. (Yes, you could park in a closer spot, but only on weekends.)

The town purchased this property with the intention of preserving passive open space. It is mostly used for dog walking, community gardening, and walking. The trails are also used for cross country training. The Deming-Young Farm Foundation has been working for years to restore and renovate the house on this property (built in 1784) and open it to the public. That endeavor is now reaching fulfillment, so you may soon be able to make a tour part of your stop as well. More information can be found at http://www.newingtonct.gov/content/78/118/138/2622/3014/default.aspx, although (strangely) it contains no mention of the open space aspect of this site.

This cache was placed with the permission of the Newington Parks and Recreation Department.

Congratulations to SiNwYrM for his 375th FTF. (Okay, maybe that's a very slight exaggeration. His actual total is still pretty impressive.)
