Floating Missouri Streams and rivers is
an enjoyable activity for all ages. Some common safety guidelines
are listed below.
* Beginners should ask for canoe & kayak paddling
instructions.
* Beginners should take a short trip.
* Beginners should not take young children the first time
out.
* Always wear old shoes for wading. Flip flops are not
recommended.
* Bring along a dry change of clothing.
* Bring along water or other electrolyte replenishing fluids.
* Carry food and clothing in water-tight container or bag and tie
securely to your canoe or kayak. Anything that is not tied down may
be lost!
* Wear sunscreen
* If you wear glasses, you should wear a glasses strap.
* Allow sufficient time for swimming, picnicking, resting.
* Keep off of and respect private property.
* Respect fishermen and do not cross their lines.
* Use litter bags and only leave your foot tracks behind. Practice
C.I.T.O.
* Lock valuables in car out of sight.
* Wear your life jacket at all times.
* Do not grab other canoes or kayaks.
* Do not tie canoes or kayaks together.
* No horseplay.
* Respect others and watch your language, there are many kids on
our rivers.
* No nudity, again, there are many children on the river.
* Do not dive, jump from banks, cliffs, bridges or rope swings!
Water levels are constantly changing.
* When fishing, wade only where you can see the bottom and be extra
careful on slippery or loose stone banks.
