Scientists today tell us that our bodies require amino acids to
build proteins, which make up much of our body tissues.
Nutritionists tell us that some of those amino acids must come from
our food. They call these essential amino acids. Furthermore,
neither grains nor legumes contain all of the essential amino acids
necessary to make complete proteins. Together, though, grains and
legumes provide us with the full complement of essential amino
acids.
Our ancestors had no idea about all of that. They just knew that
beans and bread go together.
Beans and Cornbread
The cooks have once again agreed to cook up a big batch of beans
and bake as many pones of cornbread as necessary. Sides will likely
include kraut & wieners and onions, along with whatever else is
fresh from the garden or freshly canned. As usual, feel free to
bring your favorite side dish to share. The dinner bell will ring
around noon at the Sycamore shelter in the tailwaters area.
Sorry Duke
Now for the hard part.
Just as amino acids are vital to our bodies, public lands are
vital to geocaching. September 24 is National
Public Lands Day, a great time to show our appreciation to
those who manage our public lands and welcome us to play in them.
So, just like the old days, you'll have to work for your beans.
Since we ended up working on the upper part or Sugar Branch Trail
last year, plans this year are for the lower section starting at
the dam. I'm not sure what Kevin & the guys have in mind but I
think I detected an evil gleam in his eye.
