Geocache Description:

Cache is located near M-18 Kola federal highway, where a monument to military drivers is installed.

Road Voibokalo-Kobona, where near intersection of it and M-18 highway the cache is located, was one of the parts of the Road of Life, combined land and water communication route of the World War II time. Besieged by German and Finnish troops, Leningrad have had the only connection with Motherland - the one through Ladoga lake. In winter time ships were being replaced by trucks, which ran on the ice of the frozen lake. The road worked from November, 1941 to January, 1943. In total the road was used to ship more than 360,000 tonnes of goods, mostly rations and fodder, into Leningrad. The total number of people evacuated from the siege of Leningrad through the Road of Life was about 1.3 million, mostly women and children who walked by foot.
The monument is dedicated to all truck drivers, who worked on the Road of Life. It is a concrete GAZ-AA truck (Soviet replica of Ford model AA), widely used through the war, also known as "Polutorka" (One-and-a-Half-Tonner) due to its payload. You will be amazed if learned that inside the monument there is a real truck, brought from bottom of lake Ladoga.
