Geocache Description:

Wha...wha...wha is this? A Letterbox Hybrid in Morgantown? Is the world coming to an end? Or is it just another story along the W080°00.000 line where nothing else has occured except the whacky prosaic meanderings of our favorite explorer and his often annoyed wife...Corky and Edna Meriwether. (PLEASE SEE THE FULL SERIES OF W080 00.000 TO UNDERSTAND WHAT I SPEAK OF)

**** THIS IS A LETTERBOX HYBRID. DO NOT TAKE THE STAMP AND INK PAD IN THE CACHE. IT IS NOT SWAG. ****

LETTERBOX HYBRIDS pays homage to an older form of scavenger hunt. Some people like to collect these stampings in a special book, but it is not required to find this cache.

DIRECTIONS: Get off Mall exit in Morgantown, start up hill toward mall and then turn right at Burger King. Drive til the road splits into a 'Y'. Bear left up the dirt portion. Drive a few hundred yards and then sharp turn left up smaller dirt road and park where somebody thinks is their personal dumping ground. Park and walk up rest of hill.

You can also drive up to the Mall, drive past the mall and park up near Hyundai dealership which is considerably harder hike.

When you find this cache you will be standing on the 80th Longitude West Line [this one .004 off due to the fact I wanted to keep it out of the open]. A line of historical indifference that runs all the way from the North Pole through Morgantown to the South Pole.

There is no marker, only this cache, to remind us of this historical spot.

*************************

Ahh yes the sometimes wise Corky Meriwether can be a real dummy sometimes. Thus continues our saga of tepid adulation between Corky and his wife Edna.

Corky Meriwether was always fond of sunsets, farming, pork tenderloin and exploring. It was a simpler time. One thing Corky was never fond of was his mother in law, Gertrude.

From the moment Edna stowed her aboard their raft and they set sail down the Monongahela River, she was always telling Corky what to do and how to do it.

There was no love between these two. From the time Corky used Gertrude as a shield from a hail of arrows from a band of hostile Indians to the time Corky used her as a temporary boat rudder, it's just been bad news between these two.

Corky decided that the many years of Gertrude was taking its toll, so he arranged for a game of hide and go seek.

Unfortunately for Gertrude, nobody else was involved in the game and the "seek" portion was conveniently left off the itinerary. Gertrude being not so bright waited and waited. This cache marks the spot that they found Gertrude 13 days later.

She died knowing the joke was on everybody else, because she could not be found. Thus, this place marks the exact spot the "ultimate game" and only winner of a "hide and go seek" game was achieved in modern history.

If you look closely you'll see an area where she started a fire to keep warm and maybe just maybe you'll run into her zombie ghost floating over you whispering to you that "she won, she won"
