Geocache Description:

Placed for the 2011 Picnic in the Pines Event.

“Ella?”, our daughter said, “You’re living on ‘She’ Drive?” “No”, we replied, “That was the name of Alejandro Gonzales’ wife”.
The history of Corrales always provides interesting stories. When we purchased on East Ella, we became part of a Spanish land grant given to Corporal Francisco Montes Vigil in 1710. Since he was unable to settle on the land as required by Spanish law, he sold the land to Captain Juan Gonzales in 1712.
Alejandro Gonzales (his house is on 4499 Corrales Road) started a celery farm on what is now East Ella (and the surrounding area), which became so successful that he was known as the Celery King.
Around 1957, the area was sold for development (Gonzales occupied the house from 1905 to 1955.) and the concept of East Ella Drive began. Several of the homeowners that were part of the original street development are still there, and are great resources for the history of the street after 1957.
