Placed right between the Police Station and the Government building
this box is a symbol of justice and confidence. It's just the kind
of things the dark city of Ankh-Morpork really needs.
They could put you in mind of a can of sardines, if you
thought sardines were huge and scaly and proud and arrogant. And
presumably, somewhere, there’s the key...
They may be called the Palace Guard, the City Guard, or the Patrol.
Whatever the name, their purpose in any work of heroic fantasy is
identical: it is, round about Chapter Three (or ten minutes into
the film) to rush into the room, attack the hero one at a time, and
be slaughtered. No one ever asks them if they want to.
This cache is dedicated to those fine men.

Doua virtuti indispensabile orasului cenusiu Ankh-Morpork.
Te-ar putea face sa te gandesti la o cutie de sardele, daca
ai crede ca sardelele sunt uriase si pline de solzi. Si, se
presupune, pe undeva exista un desfacator...
Li se spune Garda Palatului, Garda Orasului sau Patrula. Oricare
le-ar fi numele, scopul lor in orice opera fantastica eroica este
identic: adica, pe la capitolul trei (sau dupa zece minute din
film) trebuie sa dea buzna in camera, sa il atace unul cate unul pe
eroul principal si sa fie macelariti. Nimeni nu ii intreaba daca
vor sa faca asta.
