Cache has been set for Backmuir woods event on 23rd October and is not loggable until then.
This cache is placed along the old drovers road to Liff. The path is fairly rough, narrow, overgrown and muddy in places, but the views over the river to Fife make it well worth the trip.
Backmuir woods is a 45 hectare woodland cared for by The Woodland Trust in partnership with a management group from the local community.
The mixture of mature and new woodland and the wide variety of trees provide a haven for many kinds of wildlife. Jays, woodpeckers, buzzards, ferns, fungi, roe deer and red squirrels are part of that natural mix.
There are about 9km of trails, including 1.5km on a surfaced, all-abilities track. The remainder being woodland trails which can become soft and muddy after rain, so sturdy footwear is advised. The gently sloping terrain offers views over the Tay to the south and the Sidlaws to the north.
Been 'n Gone is a well know West Lothian cacher who is probably one of the best travelled cachers for miles around whilst working in his huge HGV. Greg always has a camera at the ready and frequently produces awe inspiring photos which are frequently added to his logs (no not the oversized 6.2m ones which he regularly tips), the ones on geocachng.com. Greg is no stranger to FaceBook either and he can regularly be seen out and about enjoying himself getting up to all manner of things. The strangest so far must be synchronised trig surfing with 20+ cachers perfecting the art - awesome photo it was too.
