Geocache Description:

The Goodga River is home to the Trout Minnow and several other varieties of fish including the Spotted Minnow, Western Pygmy Perch and the Swan River Goby.

At this location you will find the first vertical slot fish way (fish ladder) to be constructed in WA.

It was opened in 2003 and was constructed as a result of a gauging station being installed in 1964 which prevented species of fish from travelling upstream to spawning grounds. The gauging station measures stream flow and water quality.

The full report on a study undertaken by Murdoch University which assessed the effectiveness of the fish ladder can be found at the link above ('Related Web Page' at the top and is a pdf file).

In a nut shell it states the fish ladder is effective in providing a means for the fish to get to where they need to be to breed.

To get to the cache you travel about 5 kilometres along Two Peoples Bay Road and will come across a small bridge with the number 4221 on the reflective signs. On the eastern side of the bridge turn left and follow the narrow track.
