The bushland along the Wolli Creek valley was spared from
development only due to being reserved for the South West Motorway.
Long opposed by residents and finally spared from destruction by
the construction of the M5 tunnel, this valley is now planned to be
part of a regional park.
Join us to walk the Wolli Creek valley leg of the Two Valley
Trail to the junction of the Cooks river then on to Steel Park in
Marrickville for lunch.
More info at
http://www.wollicreek.org.au/tvt/walking.htm
The walk will commence at 9:30 am sharp, so please organise to
turn up between 9:00am and 9:15am as there will be a quick chat
about the walk and the caches along the route before we depart. We
will be leaving from from S 33° 56.188 E 151° 06.800 near Bexley
North train station. The walk to Steel Park on the Cooks river next
to Illawarra road, Marrickville is about 5.8km and should only take
around 2 hours. (Maybe longer depending on time spent searching for
caches on the way!)
People not wanting to do the walk could meet at the park from
11.30am. Steel park has BBQs and picnic tables along with a
waterplay park and play equipment for young ones. Nearby are Cafe
Adore and Steel Park Cafe.
Getting there: The start of the walk is close to the train line
so catching a train to Bexley North would be one option. The site
is close to the M5 motorway as well.
There is ample on street parking at both locations and it is not a
long drive between. If people want to bring eskies and supplies for
lunch and prefer to drive, mention it in your "will Attend" and I'm
sure some car-pooling can be arranged between the points.
Public transport options home are via train from Marrickville or
Tempe stations or there is a bus to the city right beside the
park.
This is also a perfect opportunity for new geocachers to pick up
some tips on finding and hiding geocaches. Don't forget you can
also swap geocoins and travel bugs at the event.
Please register your intention to attend by leaving a 'will
attend' entry on this page and you'll be emailed when any
announcements are made.
