Science Lights Up The University of Winnipeg Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Wizago: I visited a few weeks ago and it was still there. Alas today it is gone. With winter coming soon I have decided to archive this cache. If no one puts up a winter friendly cache nearby, I will see what I can do come summer.

Geocache Description:

Pill bottle. Please replace the cache so it is NOT visible. I have restored the cache to its original condition, but made it smaller.

The University of Winnipeg recently opened a new building, the Richardson College for the Environment and Science Complex. The complex itself is a model of green building technology, with recycled materials and a tree-filled atrium, and labs with state-of-the-art energy efficiency and heat recovery system. This signature building is possible because of generous support from the Government of Canada, Government of Manitoba, Richardson Firm, Family and Foundation and other generous donors. Unfortunately, the building does not house all the science departments on campus; it is not big enough! Science at University of Winnipeg is really booming. For instance, the largest Canada Foundation for Innovation grant in the province was awarded to a scientist at University of Winnipeg.

Also, Batman is inside the building! He is evaluating the pathogenicity of North American and European strains of Geomyces destructans in cave bats, tree bats, and other mammalian hibernators. There are several Canada Research Chairs in science on campus. I encourage you to stop in for a tour or grab something to eat at the new restaurant, Elements, inside the building. The licensed, full-service restaurant offers a menu that is focused on the Diversity philosophy of food - using high-quality ingredients (local, organic and sustainable whenever possible) and creating dishes in a tried and true way.

Hours for restaurant operation are:
Monday - Thursday: 7am - 9pm (last seating)
Friday 7am - 11pm (last seating)
Saturday 9am - 11pm (last seating)
Sunday 9am - 4pm (last seating)

Elements has a Grab & Go Counter that will facilitate quick service for coffee and ready-made sandwiches, fruit cups and salads.

Hours for the Grab & Go Counter are:
Monday - Friday: 7am - 4pm

On to the cache. Please replace as you found it. You might not have any other choice. It is located in the parking lot for this new building. Please do not park in the daycare drop-off parking lot during business hours. You should not need to park for very long. It should be an easy park and grab. It is probably best to park in the one hour free parking on the side streets or you can pay to park in the lot itself.

Please be mindful of the brand new plants and trees in the parking lot. The COO of University of Winnipeg gave me permission to place it here. The original cache contained a log, a small pencil, a FTF certificate and a few lapel pins. It now contains only a log. I have a special request. My grandfather has cancer. One of the things that helps him through treatment is sorting through his collection of lapel pins. If you have any to trade or leave, please do and I will come take them every now and then and add more trade items. Thank you! We just happened to have all the equipment today to replace the cache. I will add more pins ASAP.

This is our first Canadian hide. If something is not right, please let us know. If anyone notices the attaching mechanism coming loose, please let us know. Thanks!

*** Congratulations TimPile on FTF! ****
