Geocache Description:

This cache is a part of The Detroit Institute of Arts Inside/Out program.

Watson and the Shark, 1777
John Singleton Copley (1738-1815)
American

Long before the movie Jaws, there was Watson and the Shark. This harrowing picture was based on the real-life story of Brooks Watson. He dared to swim with the sharks and paid a hefty price. He was attacked and his right leg severed from the knee down, but he lived to tell about it! See the original shark tale.
…at your DIA.
Inside/Out brings reproductions of great treasures from the Detroit Institute of Arts into your community. Discover them all around town.

This cache is NOT at the posted coordinates.

This is a walking puzzle that will take you past three different portraits placed here for The Detroit Institute of Arts Inside/Out program.

You need to gather numbers along the path we take you to fill into this puzzle:

N 42 42.ABC
W 82.55.DEF

At the posted coordinates, begin walking north towards the trail post marked zero. On your way, be sure to count the number of blue signs that pertain to parking as you walk along the trail BEFORE you make the turn to the right at the first split in the trail. **Be sure not to count any blue signs past this turn .
This number will be E.

At the first wooden trail distance post there are two numbers; use the first number listed. This number will be C.

As you continue, the next wooden trail distance post you come to will have two numbers on it. Use the second number listed. This number will be A.

Continue along and at the first split in the trail go straight or bear left.
At the next split, turn right. You will spot an object on your left a short distance from the split. Here you need to count the number of levels of both the seats and footrests. This number, the seats plus the footrests, will be B.

At the next interchange, turn right. The first bench you come to will be on your right. Here you need to look for letters etched into the concrete in front of the bench. The third letter’s numeric value of the alphabet will be F.

The next wooden trail distance post along this path has two numbers on it. Here you need the second digit. It will be D.

You now have all of the numbers needed to complete this artistic puzzle.
We hope you have enjoyed the paintings along the path and the nice walk through this nice park.
