Geocache Description:

The Green County Barn Quilts project started in 2008, and by the end of 2010 the 100th barn quilt was installed. Barn quilts are painted wooden squares (designed like one block of a real quilt pattern), generally 8 x 8 feet in size. Some are located on "working" barns, and others are displayed on "retired" barns. It's not as challenging as geocaching, but hunting for the barn quilt locations is a true adventure in experiencing the roads less traveled of the Green County countryside.

This was originally a horse barn; it is currently used for livestock, grain, and straw storage. The Crooks family rented the property on shares from 1969 until 1978 when they purchased it. Original owner John Moore purchased the 158 acre farm in May of 1839. In 1859, he sold the farm to Benjamin H. Fleek and the current house was built shortly thereafter. Fleek’s daughter Allie married Jacob L. Roderick, and the Crooks’ purchased the farm from his grandson Jake Jones. The pattern “Flying Frontier” is an adaptation of the original barn quilt pattern “Flying Dutchman”, from the late 1800’s, which ties the Fleek and Roderick heritage together with the farmstead’s history. This Barn Quilt is called Flying Frontier.
