This is the second of seven caches I hope to place around the area of Bulkington Village. The cache is a one Litre clip lock box that is hidden adjacent to a public footpath which can be accessed by a kissing gate at either end of the path. The path is a reasonably easy walk and should be no problem for any level of fitness.
The Bulkington end of the footpath gives great views across the Warwickshire country side whilst the Marston Jabbette end gives great views of the pendolinos rushing along the track. I did toy with making the cache a “Side Tracked” but in the end thought Beyond the Loop was more descriptive. I have filled the cache with nice goodies including a first to find patch.
Bulkington village is the largest village in Warwickshire having a population of 6.303 in the 2001 census. Bulkington has connections with the locally-born author George Eliot (Mary Ann Evans), who knew the village well. She referred to it as Raveloe in her book Silas Marner (1861). The church of St James is where George Eliot's uncle and aunt are buried.
Marston Jabbett is one of the seven hamlets that were subsumed into the Parish of Bulkington. The others were Bulkington, Barnacle, Weston-In-Arden, Bramcote, Ryton, and Wolvershill. In the Doomsday Book of 1086 Marston Jabbett was called Merstone. It is situated on the Ashby-de-la-Zouch canal.
