Menorca gehört, wie auch die anderen Baleareninseln Ibiza, Formentera und Mallorca, zum so genannten Andalusischen Faltengebirge. Tektonische Bewegungen ließen im jüngeren Tertiär die Verbindung zum Festland abreißen.
Menorca ist die zweitgrößte Baleareninsel, was sich im Namen widerspiegelt: Menorca bedeutet soviel wie die Kleinere, im Gegensatz zu Mallorca, was soviel wie die Größere bedeutet.
Auf Menorca sind mit devonischen und karbonischen Gesteinen die ältesten Gesteine der Balearen zu finden.
Geologisch wie geografisch lässt sich Menorca in eine Nordhälfte und eine Südhälfte unterteilen. In der Nordhälfte, Tramuntana genannt, finden sich Gesteine aus Devon, Karbon, Perm, Trias, Jura und Kreide.
Die Felsen auf der Nordseite zählen zu den Höchsten der Insel.
Auf dem Weg zum Leuchtturm auf dem nördlichsten Punkt von Menorca kommt man an einer Stelle vorbei, die man gesehen haben sollte. Um diesen Cache zu loggen schickt bitte eine email an mich mit folgenden Antworten:
1) Wie lautet auf der Informationstafel die Ueberschrift rechts oben
2) Schätzt oder lest von eurem GPS ab, wie hoch der Felsen ist auf dem ihr steht (Höhe: Meer - Felsen)
3) Schätzt wieviele "kleineren Steinhaufen" ihr seht, bzw. beschreibt was für "Dinge" daraus entstanden sind.
Optional: baut euer "eigenes Ding" und macht Bilder davon...
Update 2016: Stapeln ist offensichtlich nicht mehr erlaubt - schade, Bilder sind trotzdem willkommen

Menorca belongs to the so-called Andalusian fold mountains like the other Balearic Islands Ibiza, Formentera and Mallorca. Tectonic movements in the younger Tertiary demolished the connection to the mainland.
Menorca is the second largest Balearic island, which is reflected in its name: Menorca means as much as "the smaller", in contrast to Mallorca, which means "the larger".
In Menorca you find with Devonian and Carboniferous rocks of the oldest rocks of the Balearic Islands. Geologically and geographically Menorca can be divided into a northern half and a southern half. Mentioned in the northern half, Tramuntana, the rocks are Devonian, Carboniferous, Permian, Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous.
The rocks on the north side are among the highest of the island.
On the way to the lighthouse of the most nothern place of Menorca you pass a very special place - this is worth to stop and have a look at it. To log this cache please send an email to me with the answers of the following questions:
1) You find an info panel, what is the headline in the right corner on the top of the panel?
2) Guess or read out from you GPS, what´s the hight of the rock you are standing (Hight: sea - rock)
3) Guess how many "little rocks" you see, or in other words describe what "things" were created
Optional: built your own "thing" and take pictures of it...
Update 2016: unfortunately it´s no more permitted to built "towers", but photos are still appreciated...
