Geocache Description:

Cache # 8

The cache is placed beside the wonderful Murray to Mountains Rail Trail. It splits here to begin the "gradual" climb to Beechworth or to continue on through open country towards Myrtleford and Bright.

For further information on the Rail Trail please click on the related web page (above)

At this junction there are a few more interesting and historic relics. I am not sure what the huge concrete base with the pointy iron top is (but I am sure all railway buffs will know). It seems like it may have been part of a pulley system for shunting carriages from one line to the other?? (If anyone can provide further information I will gladly update this page).

There are also two culverts nearby with nicely arched brickwork - these provided drainage for a small creek which flowed under both lines and this is the point where the line actually separated.

The cache is a small clip-top container with notebook, PEN, trinkets and a foreign coin.

CONGRATULATIONS - FTF - Purpledreamer!!
