Geocache Description:

Photobucket

We placed this cache for the 10th anniversary of 9.11.2001 near our brave me in uniform. This day stirs many emotions in me and probably all other Americans. On 9.11.2001 the world was changed forever. We witnessed the terrible attacks on American soil and watched as the twin towers, building 7, and the Pentagon were left in ruins. Although the attacks were physically in those places it also hit the hearts of everyone across the nation.
On this day, 9.11.2001, with no idea what was happening in New York, my wife and I were in the hospital ready to have a child. We were sitting there awaiting the arrival of this wonderful person. We were filled with joy and anticipation. We wondered all about what this life would bring and who he or she would become. And would we have a boy or a girl, we didn’t know? What would we name our child, because we hadn’t decided? How big would he or she be, and will everything be ok? We were filled with joy mixed with concern as my wife was in labor and the start of pain that was sure to get more intense very quickly. In our little spot in the world, we had no idea about the tragedy that had already started on the east coast.
Just a little before 9am that morning our wonderful midwife came into the room to check on my wife. She said she was sorry for not coming sooner but with all that is going on she was a little distraught. We were not sure what she was talking about and one of the nurses told her we did not know. We had not turned the TV on the whole morning and were unaware of the hijacked aircraft and that Flight 11 had crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center. When she turned on the TV we witnessed Flight 175 hit the south tower. My heart sank and my mind raced in disbelief. How can this happen?
The TV was on the rest of the day and we were watching, praying and trying to understand. My beautiful wife endured the pain of labor, the anticipation of our child and the emotion of tragedy.
Our Madison was born at 9:40pm. She was perfect. Our hearts were filled with joy and the love for this little baby girl. In the 10 years since, Madison has grown into a beautiful young lady with a big heart. She understands that she was born on a day of infamy and maybe a little of those events. I am not sure of her full understanding of what happened but I don't think I understand either. I do know my heart aches when I see the footage on TV each year near Madison's birthday. For our family 9.11 is bittersweet. We love our country and we love our Madison.
This cache is dedicated to my beautiful Madison, the brave men in uniform, the memories of the lives lost, and the justice of the people responsible for those terrible events of 9.11.2001.
