Looking for a small black plastic tub suitable for holding small swaps and trackables. Container has been wrapped in fabric tape and coloured black with a permanent marker (base colour was bright green). BYO pen or pencil!
While on military exchange at Camp Meng Rai with the 3rd Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment, I decided that Chiang Rai needed a cache in the heart of the city.
So, welcome to Chiang Rai and to Wat Jet Yod.
Firstly a little about Chiang Rai. Chiang Rai is the provincial city of Chiang Rai province and situated around 180km north from the city of Chiang Mai. Chiang Rai city is usually used as a base to explore the sites and attractions of this northernmost province. Chiang Rai is smaller and more laid back than its provincial neighbour of Chiang Mai and doesn't attract anywhere as near as many of the tourists so has a more laid back feel to the place. One of the main attractions the province has to offer is the infamous Golden Triangle meeting points of Myanmar, Laos and Thailand in the northern-most area of the province at Mae Sai, once the center of Opium cultivation. Now on the Thai side of the borders at least, you are unlikely to find much evidence of opium cultivation apart from that which is reported in the museums, however this probably isn't the case on the Myanmar and Laos side of the borders.
Wat Jed Yod was constructed in 1844 (2387) by the venerable monk Brakrubakuntha Kunthawungso. The Wi-Soong-Kama Se-Ma rite was performed on 17 September 1938 (2481) and the Buddhist Temple Boundary Ceremony was performed on 5 March 1944 (2487). Wat Jed Yod was elevated to the position of Royal Temple of the 3rd Order on 31 March 1978 (2521).
Inside the Wat there is a 12 metre high gold statue of the Lord Buddha at prayer, with a multitude of ornate frescos around the cewiling depicting scenes from the Rama Khien.
I have included a few small swaps in the container including my signature Aussie Skate Badge plus a FTF prize of a limited edition Australian/Thai Army Exercise Chapel Gold 2011 patch.

If cache is missing from the primary location, a secondary cache location and container has been sited as back-up down the side of the Wat. Ccords for this location are N 19° 54.160 E 99° 49.879 (down Soi 3 to the left of the main temple entrance). This container also houses a couple of swaps and a log on rite-in-the-rain paper, but as with the main cache, BYO writing material.

Please note that my local muggle friend, BOHT, will be looking after this cache for me when I return to Australia.
