Mackay Memorial Hospital was established in memory of Dr. George Leslie Mackay who coming to Taiwan with the message salvation for all men.

Mackay, The Black Bearded Bible Man, is the best known Westerners to have lived in Taiwan. A best description about his dedication to Taiwan was written in his dairy and which later be written as a song, "My Final Resting Place" (listen to the song).

馬偕醫院是紀念馬偕博士，以「基督救世之精神，醫治病患之肉體、精神及靈魂」為宗旨而設立。

黑鬍子傳教士，馬偕，是居住於台灣的西方人。關於他對台灣的貢獻與感情，最好的描述就寫在他的日記裡，後來這段文字還被譜成一首台語歌『最後的住家』(聽這首歌)。
