Ghost Train Tightrope Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Oreb: I went out today to the GZ. The Amherst Conservation Commission foot bridge is no longer there and the only way to get to the GZ, unless the swamp is frozen solid, is to walk right next to the house at the beginning of the rail road bed. Even if that is conservation commission land, which it might be, having geocachers walking so close to a home doesn't feel like it encourages good geocaching neighbors, so I've reluctantly concluded that I will archive this cache. If a footbridge is rebuilt at some point to allow unambiguous access to this great, and long, section of the old railroad bed, I'll consider recreating the cache.

This was one of my favorite puzzle caches so I'm sad to see it go.

Thanks to all the finders who went out over the years to find this 14 year old cache.

Geocache Description:

The cache is not at this location!!! This location is on the old railroad bed but you'll need to solve the puzzle to find the cache. Difficulty is for the puzzle, the hide itself is a 1. The terrain is a 2.5 because of one small section that might be tricky. Please rehide so that muggles don't stumble across it.

The cache is not at the posted location, however the driveway to the north of the posted (but incorrect coordinates) is on top of the old railroad bed. If you move 40 more feet down Cobbler Lane and look back to the north you'll see some of the old granite drainage system of the railroad that is now part of the driveway.

This cache is the 21st cache in the Ghost Train series of caches along the route of the old Milford to Manchester Railroad. We've long been intrigued by the Milford and Manchester Railroad that was only in use for a few short years. A list of the caches in this series can be found at the bookmark: Ghost Train Series

The puzzle idea was borrowed from a very fun cache I did in the past that I really enjoyed.

To find the cache you'll need to breathe deeply, close your eyes, and feel the cache...be the cache...

Please bring a pen. I'd appreciate it if you didn't give away the solution or location in your logs.

Maine Railroad) can be found here:
