I found This Daughter Went to the Tower as my 300th find. As there is plenty of room around Hoghton for more caches, I decided to place a circular series incorporating the existing multi in honour of the occasion. That multi is now archived, unfortunately, but you can grab Ask for Cask - Hoghton if you fancy finishing your walk at the pub. You will also pass FBM on the walk, but it's a mystery cache, so I'm not telling you where it is. You will have to work that part out for yourself!
Recommended parking is at Hoghton Village Hall and recreation ground - N53 44.021, W002 35.242 where there is plenty of space. From there a short walk will take you to the first in the series. You can then take public footpaths across farmland and country lanes to find the twelve caches in the series. Wellies are recommended for this walk, and please be aware when crossing farmland that dogs will need to be kept on the lead. There are stiles along the first part of the route which affect caches 3 and 4, and then again before and after number 10. All other caches can be found without the need to climb a stile.
The A6061 through Hoghton is a fast and potentially dangerous road. Please do not attempt to park on the main road. There is a pavement for safe walking along this road to and from the given parking coordinates. You cannot park on the church car park and there is a barrier in operation. Alternative parking could be at the Boars Head at the end of Chapel Lane, but space is limited, so please only park there if you are intending to give the pub your custom.
This is a straightforward series to do with children (as long as they don't mind a bit of mud and they are ok with cows, sheep and horses), but please bear in mind that a section of the walk is along the main road and young children will need to be well supervised.
All caches should be straightforward to find. The whole walk, using the given parking coordinates, is 4km long and should take no more than two hours to complete at a leisurely pace (including searching time).
1. This is a nice easy cache to start the series. Stealth will be required and please rehide well.
